The setting for this commercial for Pantene is in Asia and is about a deaf girl who dreams of playing the violin. The girl always gets put down because everyone around her thinks that music is a hearing element but one man explains to her that music is a seeing element and that a person just has to feel the music and play what they feel. There were only three main characters and not much information about personal lives or personality traits were used.  The internal conflict of the deaf girl would be her mental mind-set that she could not play the violin because of her physical conditions. The external conflict would be her battle against the girl competing against her. She experiences many hurtful experiences with this girl and has to overcome her mental abuse.  The deaf girl being able to play music symbolizes many traits. First, to be different, no two people are the same and thats the beauty of human life. Also, never let complications, troubles, and people get in the way of your dreams and goals. The protagonist is the deaf girl and the antagonist is the girl she is competing against in the music competition.  The irony of the story is that a deaf girl can learn to play music by seeing rather than hearing the music as normal musicians do. Music can not only be heard but also seen.  The climax of the novel was when the butterfly comes out of the cocoon and the girl is beginning to grow and play her music and be herself and be happy with her condition. The theme of the story is to not be ashamed of how you are. Every one is unique in their own way, just the way God intended for it to be.

The Australian Lyre Bird is truly an extravagant species. These creatures are famous for mimicry. The birds can mimic almost any sound that they hear such as chain saws and cars. Their physical appearance is also very unique, with their long colorful feathers. The male Lyre Bird has sixteen feathers along with two long slender feathers at the end of the bird’s back.   The Lyre Bird is often thought of to be very shy and the female birds are not heard mimicking as often as the males. An interesting fact about the Lyre Birds is that the species has been featured as the symbol of  many countries. For example New South Wales and Victoria.

I believe the Lyre Bird is a magnificent species and is just another demonstration of how wonderful nature and it’s creatures truly are. It’s ability to mimic almost any noise along with singing beautiful songs, makes the bird the greatest of all the songbirds. In the video clip, the bird is seen mimicking camera flashes and chain saws roaring. In a way, this is very sad because we, humans, have invaded so many natural habitats and affecting thousands of animal species. The creatures of the forests have become accustom to, what should be, foreign noises of chain saws, cars, and even camera flashes. Humans should respect nature and it’s animals and remember how cutting the timber to make a new subdivision may not be as important as saving a creature’s home and more importantly life.

I do not like my voice on this video!

The media portrays the average perfect girl as having long, colorful, rich hair and being very small in weight. The tan skin without a blemish or freckle on her face. The perfect boy is having an athletic build and straight teeth and not having a blemish on his face. The media also portrays the perfect job as a business person and having a multi million dollar home and a nice car as the perfect life. Commercials often times take a model and photoshop and picture into todays perfect look. Often times a model doesnt even look like the final product. The flawless skin and perfect small or fit body makes most common people very aware of how imperfect there natural looks are to the media, when in reality most ‘normal people’ are just as naturally beautiful as the models in magazines.

The video ‘Pencil Face’ was very strange, but yet interesting. Since there was no verbal communication, certain theatrical elements set the mood for the video, such as the eerie music. The location seemed to be extremely desolate and reminded me of the desert. The main character was completely alone which added to the dramatic effect of whats going to happen, is someone going to hurt her,or even is something bad about to happen. The imaginative, huge, pencil also added to the creepy mood set by the video.

The overall theme set by this video would be that by using your imagination, someone can truly think that imaginative characters , such as the pencil, or fictional events, such as being sucked into a small black circle could actually occur. In my opinion there is no life lesson intended to be depicted in this video, nor a moral to be learned. I, however enjoyed the video because it makes the viewer think about what is really happening and the errie mood it evokes. If I were to have a pencil as that in the video, I would draw houses, food, and water for everyone all over the world. Also I would draw a huge basketball court and track in my backyard so I could practice everyday. I might also consider drawing myself a black ‘69 camaro that would be extremely fast!

Our class recently took an on-line quiz about sorting pictures of people of various races into five categories-White, Black,Hispanic/Latin America, Asian, and American Indian. The first time the majority of my classmates sorted correctly under ten pictures in the appropriate places. My personal score was an eight. This is quiz proves to many that most different ethnic groups are not correctly noticed and grouped. Just fifty years ago, the American Census grouped it’s citizens by pictures, the exact same way our class just did. To place people in different categories I basically looked only at skin color, which can be difficult to go by, ethnic groups should be based on eyes, hair, skin tone, and body structure, not just skin color. This exercise was surprisingly very difficult. My criteria for categorizing people into different ethnic groups was not the proper standard that should be used to judge different groups.

I have never used a blog before to complete a class assigment, but i believe it is a very creative and fun way to do an assigment.  I think we will do various essays and book anaylsis on the blog. Honestly I am not dreading essays as much if we are able to blog and post them on our site for other classmates to read and to make comments on. After I do and assigment or an essay I always like to have other students’ opinion about it before I turn it in, and this is a neat way to obtain quick feedback.
